Filtering Facts: The Lowdown On High Performance Fuel Filters
Mar 19, 2019The 40-micron filter element is usually OK for a carburetor customer, but I usually don’t suggest it. With that said, I try to steer folks towards the 10-micron or 6-micron post-pump filters, no matter if they’re using a carburetor or EFI. The pre-pump filtration is typically going to be the same between carburetor and EFI.

Apr 12, 2016I'm returning to a carburetor setup, and I'm replacing the fuel pump with a Holley Blue Pump 12-802 & Pressure Regulator 12-841. In the instructions for the regulator, it states to use a 40 micron post filter for carbs and lists the 10 micron filter for "High Pressure EFI" systems (Figure 2C, Page 2, document 199R10575).

When choosing a filter for use after the pump and before the engine, use an Aeromotive 10-micron (part numbers 12301 and 12310), 40-micron (part number 12335), or an acceptable equivalent. Note: these filters are for use on the fuel pump outlet side only. Any filter used after the pump must meet the following requirements:[PDF]
COMPARING FUEL FILTERS AND MICRON RATINGS
A finer micron filter can collect more contamination from the fuel and reach its dirt holding capacity more quickly. It may need replacing more ofeten than a larger micron filter. A good filter is low cost protection for expensive engine components. Is a 100 micron filter enough? | The H.A.M.B.
Jun 15, 2013A filter before and after any pump is a good idea. Filter specs can be more critical with electric pumps, as some recommend 100 micron minimum before the pump, and 40 to the carb. With your mechanical pump and pre-pump 100 micron, I would use a 10-40 micron to the carb.
correct direction for Holley carb fuel filters? | Factory
Oct 27, 2011Fun with filters Gentlemen: I don't think there is anything wrong with those little carb filters, but they are sintered brass and only take out stuff that is like 60-80 micron size and if you have a couple of 10 or 20 micron fuel filters between the tank and the carb then it's unlikely that anything that big is going to get to the carb.
