# GROUND 12 DIAGRAM WIRING VOLT NEGATIVE

12v positive ground wiring question - Farmall Cub
Jul 30, 2017The 12 volt system is negative ground, like they said, beginning in 1964, at Cub serial number 224401. Here are pics from the 1975 Cub owner's manual showing how the battery originally looked. There is info about the negative ground on the 2nd page, below the pic of the 6 volt battery.
CONVERTING FROM 6-VOLT POSITIVE GROUND TO 12-VOLT
But if it's OK, there's nothing inherent in the wiring that makes it unsuitable for 12 volts. In fact, 12 volt can actually use SMALLER diameter wiring than 6 volt. (2) 12-volt battery . Make sure it will fit. Reverse the cables so you will have negative ground. You may need new cables to accommodate. (3) 12-volt generator & regulator.
How do you convert a 6 volt positive ground system to a 12
Jun 09, 2010How does one convert a 6 volt positive ground electrical system to a 12 volt negative ground system? It seems to me that the generator would produce 12 volts with the correct voltage regulator BUT maybe I am not thinking correctly.
Converting Polarity with SPDT Relays
Nov 01, 2019Convert a Positive Output to a Negative Output: If you have a switch or an alarm or keyless entry that has a positive output that you wish to use to switch a device that requires a ground such as a horn, dome light, parking lights, head lights, hatch release, etc., wire a relay as shown below to convert the positive output (trigger) to a negative output.
Making a 6v to 12v Conversion Easy!
If you are 6v negative ground going to 12v negative, you can leave the wiring to the coil alone. If you are 6v positive ground going to 12v negative, you need to switch the two wires on the coil. Negative to positive, positive to negative. For a 12v negative system, the ignition switch wire
please explain postive ground to me - General IH - Red
Feb 25, 2009Transition to negative ground came with the change to 12 volt systems and the use solid state components such as alternator rectifiers, transistor auto radios, etc. Apparently these early devices were cheaper to manufacture for negative ground. Thus negative ground became the 12 volt ground standard and has been retained ever since.
Converting Your Model A To A 12 Volt System
Six-volt electrical systems use heavier gauge wiring to deliver the higher amperage draw. Therefore the wiring does not have to be changed when converting to 12-volts. Also the windings in the starter and horn are also heavier due to the amps used in a six-volt system. If you are still using a six-volt generator it can be converted to 12-volts.
