Apr 17, 2009This stuff was black and tan and it was in little blobs. The bottom screen on the fuel tank module was 75% covered with the junk and there was a small amount on the inner screen. I ended up cleaning the inside of the tank; then I changed the fuel filter and found some more in the fuel bowl. I looked at several biocides and ended up buying the

Nov 26, 2008It all sounds good, but what if it is algea in the fuel. Better to dump a little biocide into the tanks when you fuel. Stuff doesn't cost that much to use. You might have seen an injector(s) do this, but it is not that common. A load of microbes from a bad load of fuel is far more common. Sometimes the simplest solution is the best.
brown stuff in gas tank and filter, my take on it
Jun 11, 2005If you get some water in the tank that has a little bacteria in it, the stuff lives on hydrocarbons and will multply and grow in the gas tank. It can break apart into single celled organisms small enough to pass thru your fuel filter, and when it gets to the other side of the filter, it gloms back together into chunks large enough to plug a jet.

White Powder clogging my Fuel Filter! WTF? | Mustang
Jul 07, 2011I then filled it up with regular fuel (93 octane) and still the samething. Today I pull the fuel filter, on a hunch, as I ran the tank low. The fuel filter doesn't look terribly old. I dump the contents and out comes milky white stuff. This stuff dries into a fine white powder, WTF?! So I replace the filter. Drive the car runs great.
