eorifImage: eorifAnswer: CPTdoes not have a definitive code for an open repairof the medial retinaculum(the closest is 27425 lateral retinacular release any method). CPT states that if there is not a code that specifically identifies the procedure performed it is appropriate to use the unlisted procedure code. Since this procedure is performed on the knee27599 (unlisted procedure femur or knee) would be appropriate.

Repair retinacular tears knee cpt? | Medical Billing and
Jul 22, 2009Hello coders, what code is used for repair of medial and lateral retinacular tears of the knee? The quadiceps tendon was repaired at the same time and I have code 27385 for that but I can't find a code for other procedure. The facility coder used 27403 but I was looking at the 27405-27409 codes. Any ideas? Lateral Retinacular Release - Surgery Information
The patella (kneecap) is balanced in the front of the knee on the femur (thigh bone). In order to keep the patella centered in the middle of the knee, there are tissues on the inside and outside of the patella which are supposed to pull the patella equally each way. These tissues are call the medial (inside) and the lateral (outside) retinaculum.

Learn the Essentials of Knee Arthroscopy Coding
Oct 05, 2017The three major components of the knee – medial, lateral and patellofemoral – are a key consideration in reporting meniscectomy and meniscal repair®, AAOS, and Medicare all recognize these three compartments in the knee. The relevant CPT codes are as follows: Meniscectomy (29880 and 29881)involves surgery to remove of all or part of a torn meniscus. 29880 Arthroscopy, knee,

Medial Patellar Retinaculum - Anatomy Pictures and Information

Coding Guidance for Tendon Repairs - Becker's ASC Review
Repair of the extensor retinaculum For example, the physician incises the extensor retinaculum to expose an extensor tendon compartment which contains the lacerated tendon. This is done as part of the approach for a tendon repair and once the tendon repair is completed the physician finds that the patient has instability of the dorsal tendon compartment because the extensor retinaculum was
Techniques of medial retinacular repair and reconstruction.
Individual techniques and approaches are discussed, including primary repair with or without augmentation, and reconstruction using autogenous tendon, allografts, and synthetic graft materials. These procedures share the common objective of addressing the essential lesion in lateral patellar instability to restore the normal passive restraints against lateral patellar displacement.Cited by: 156Publish Year: 2002Author: Daniel K. Lateral retinacular release and reconstruction
Lateral retinacular release and reconstruction. One thing is certain. The physical examination of the extensor mechanism in anterior knee pain must include examination of the fat pads, the retinacular (including the medial plica) and tests for hypermobility in addition to the standard tests for patellar tracking and compression pain.
